MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Little Treasures

We’ve had special themes for Pink Saturday organised by Beverly at How Sweet The Sound Of course, all have had something to do with Christmas. My apologies for missing last week’s theme – unfortunately I had computer problems plus someone hacked into my blog & left some unwanted code which needed to be cleaned up. I hope it didn’t cause any problems for people trying to visit me. All is now cleared up.

This week we are sharing a special holiday tradition …. but I will also include the photos I had ready for last week. Over the years I’ve selected a theme for most Christmas decorations – it might be Angels one year, hearts another year, stars, bows etc

Some of the decorations would be collected & others would be handmade. The handmade ones were lots of fun and were also given to friends who also collected them as keepsakes. I’ve tried to keep a few as keepsakes myself – it’s hard to hang on to these things because I do like giving them away

The above photo shows some of my handmade decorations. The next photo only has two handmade decorations – the hearts on the left – the other hearts & stars were bought.

The next photo shows my collection of string beading. It’s become a favourite decoration for me – there’s something about them that makes the place feel rich, luxurious & gorgeous.

Red & gold are my favourite Christmas colours – even though Christmas is during our summer I still love to use these traditional colours. I also love things in miniature so one year I decorated a whole bunch of tiny trees – as seen in the top photo – Many were sold during my Christmas sales & given as gifts … but I just had to keep some for myself

I guess while most people are busy with baking favourite Christmas recipes I tend to enjoy making special little treasures…..it’s become a yearly tradition for me now.

Until next time, have a …

Christmas Past – Those Simple Things

Something special has been organised for us to do for Pink Saturday.  For the next three weeks, Beverly at  How Sweet The Sound has a theme lined up for each saturday. This week we are asked to talk about a childhood memory of a special holiday. You can find many more stories of special holiday memories from Beverly’s blog.

I don’t come from a large family. My mother has a brother & sister and when the family migrated to Australia in 1950 they settled in Horsham – a town approx a 4 hour drive, west of Melbourne. When mum & dad married they moved to Melbourne while my aunt & uncle remained in horsham for some time after their respective marriages.

We would take turns at celebrating Christmas in each city (and also alternate with Easter) – one year in Horsham, the next in Melbourne. This meant we would travel to Horsham each year. As a child I always remember Christmas time being hot and at times extremely hot. Before our family owned a car we would travel to Horsham by train. Perhaps not such an exciting thing, but for a child it was. We would need to catch the train at the oddest hours – and I remember the train would stop at Ballarat Station for a breakfast or supper, depending on which direction the train was heading. Mmmm, I can still smell the those Aussie meat pies – they must’ve been a favourite for just about everyone because no matter what time it was, pies was on the menu….. and I would always ask for one even if still half asleep, lol.

We always had a huge feast on Christmas day and I would especially look forward to dessert …. we had so much to eat. In between feasting we would be trying to keep cool, My two cousins & I would play board games and usually a little afternoon siesta would follow.

It was all good old fashioned family fun. With the exception of food there was was nothing too complicated ot too much trouble. The families couldn’t afford ‘real’ holidays but we made our time fun and enjoyed each meoment. We turned simple things into memorable times.

Christmas is also a time of surprises and giving, so before you go don’t forget to enter my first Christmas Giveaway. I have some delightful handmade presents to give away. Just go to the post below this one to enter.

Beautiful Things For Beautiful People

Today I’m sharing with you three things – a recreated piece, a printed piece and something just for you.

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

This bowl was in a sad state when I bought it from a recycling yard. Originally it would have had a fixed overhead handle, but the handle must have been long gone before I found it. The silver that did cover it once was also long gone too & the bowl needed a good clean & scrub in preparation for the recreation process. This is the final result of that recreation.

The bowl now has a ‘new life’ …. and is indeed in ‘pride-of-place’ in a new home standing proud as gorgeous little Recreated Treasure.

The next photo shows a lovely printed panel – not one of my works but one I have on sale at the moment. It’s a long narrow panel but will sit nicely on a mantle as it would on a wall.

I like the mix of pink & green on this print.

And finally for today there is my latest photo of a deep pink rose. We all love beautiful things and we enjoy sharing these beautiful things with each other.

So to my dear blogging friends this rose is for you – feel free to copy this rose for your personal use – I’m hoping it will give you lots of love and a smile each time you look at it.

Clearance Sale Pics

The EP Designs clearance sale opened today. I was hoping to get these photos up earlier in the day but it has been a busy day.

I’m combining this post with  Pink Saturday so I can share with my Pink Saturday friends the pink decorative home wares included in the sale. Some of these items have been posted on previous Pink Saturdays but some haven’t.

In the past all my sales & exhibitions were held inside my home. The lounge & dining rooms would be converted into a little ’boutique’ where family, friends, friends of friends, neighbours & customers would be invited to attend.

This year for the first time the sale was set up in the garage – not as pretty and far from a  boutique look but I had to give it a try. It’s definitely a lot easier setting up in the garage …. and it did work quite well. I can now leave it all set up until next Saturday … and our lounge room is free for us to relax in.

All tablecloths, runners, throws & bags were set up in the family room – the only part of the house used for the sale. We love to sit, chat & drink copious cups of coffee or tea with customers. I don’t have any photos of this but hopefully will be able to snap a few shots next week.

If you live in Melbourne or are visiting Melbourne next Saturday 28th November and would like an invitation to attend, please contact me here and I’ll post an invitation to you.

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!

A Pink Smile

 Welcome to Pink Saturday!

Roses are in bloom at the moment so I’ll begin with a Pink one to welcome you today.  This one looks so happy.

This gorgeous little ornate dish used to belong to a dear friend of mine. She had it on a table next to her arm chair where she would sit. Every time she saw it she would say a prayer for me - she oringinally thought it was one of my recreations – but of course it’s not – however, it reminded her of me so she prayed. It’s so touching to know this.

Sadly, my dear friend passed away three years ago and her daughter (also my dear friend),  gave this pink dish to me in memory of her mum. Now every time I see this dish I remember my dear friend, Joy, who prayed for me ….. and I now pray for her family.

Beautiful things always make me smile. I hope these make you smile today and bless you throughout the week.

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!

A Pink Welcome

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

For this week’s Pink I have a sweet Welcome sign. It’s a printed panel of pink florals and two gorgeous (pink &) blue birds. A nice little welcome for anyone entering the home…..and a welcome to all my blogging friends and new visitors.

… next we have a hand painted photo frame in pink, with splots & splashes of pearly white & pale gold,  and daisy embellishments…

… and finally, a flower loved by many around the world – a   Rose  just for you,

with  Love from me.

I hope this post has helped brighten your day

Quick Pink

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

For this week’s Pink I only have one small item to show. This is going to be a quick post because I’m recovering from viruses, whooping cough and an injured shoulder ….. if things come in threes I hope this will be last of it, lol. … I just didn’t want to miss out on seeing my  Pink Saturday friends.

This is another recreated item – pink plate with rose centre.

Hope you are all well! I’ll be back to check out your Pink posts.

A Mix Of Pinks

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

My blog has been selected as a finalist in the Business Mums Network Blog Awards.  Five blogs with the highest number of nominations in each category were chosen as finalists. Thank you to everyone who nominated my blog :)

Please take the time to cast a vote for my blog now – Click on the button below – You can win prizes too.

Thank you.

For this week’s Pink I have a bit of a mix. To begin with we have a sweet jute shoulder bag, ideal for those spring/summer outings. I love the little sequins & beads sparkling randomly on the floral design. Shopping can feel extra fun when you have a gorgeous bag to pop in all your treasures & special finds.

I managed to slip in another of my recreations – it’s a small vase but I do like the shape of it. Recreated from a tarnished/ blackened silver piece to a dainty little pink vase.

…. and finally… Some of my blogging friends may already know that I do love vintage pictures. So in the tradition set by Vicki of Bunny Cottage, who adds a vintage picture in her Pink Saturday posts, and has a lovely blog full of gorgeous vintage pictures, I thought I’d add one too for this week.

I hope this post has helped brighten your day.

A Blast From The Past

Welcome to Another Pink Saturday!

Beverly has issued us all a challenge for Pink Saturday – to visit someone new amongst the particpants and then introduce them to your readers. So my blog for the week is –

Candy’s blog - Rock Candy . Candy loves old and preloved things. She has a gorgeous blog, so do pop over and take a look around.

For today’s Pink I’ll share with you more recreated items …. these are past works of mine (…. and also early photos so my apologies for the quality of the photos). Here is a mix of things – a tall planter, small vase and decorative jugs.

All items in the above photo are recreated, with the exception of the pretty pink sheer tablecloth/throw the items are gracefully resting on. The pink fringing was hand dyed especially for it.

In the photo below – what was an old, worn silver tray became a pink decorative tray refusing to be hidden away in a cupboard….. The colours around the rim are actually a little deeper than what is seen in the photo…. what you can do with old pieces is only limited by the imagination.

I’m not too far away from returning to my creative space where someone’s disgarded items are awaiting to become new treasures. I’m hoping to be able recreate many more decorative items and perhaps even post some of the work as I do them step by step.

In the meantime – Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!

Recreated, Repurposed, Rebirthed

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

We all need a little colour to brighten our days. I personally love lots of sunshine streaming through the windows. But when the skies are grey it’s nice to be surrounded by pretty things to help brighten up little grey corners. So for today’s Pink I’ll share with you another recreated item…. a pink one of course.

This was an old brass jug rescued from an op shop. It was given a nice cleansing and scrub; then the creative hand set about to give it a face lift.

A nice bunch of pretty blooms would look extra gorgeous in this jug/vase.

Another recreated/repurposed item - transformed from iceream bowl to jewellery holder.

A bit of paint, a few trims and a velvet drawstring pouch …. who would’ve thought that desserts were once eaten from this bowl? Now it holds your precious gems.

Created With Love.

Welcome to Pink Saturday!

It’s those little things, handmade or recreated with love, that can say so much and become little treaured keepsakes. So I’ve dug out some photos from my archives, of a few small creations to share for today’s Pink . The first photo shows a simple little notebook. I had a stack of handmade paper which I made into these small books. A painted rose on the cover with some trims turn a plain book into a sweet little keepsake notebook.

A few years back my mum came home with a box full of these small stainless steel gravy boats. They were thrown out at her place of work so she rescued them and brought them to me. They were still in good condition - but what do you do with a box full of gravy boats?

…. Recreate them into candle holders of course! After receiving the ‘recreation’ treatment some were filled with candle wax or wax beads and others would hold a tealight or short candle.

The next photo shows a recreated trinket box. This was a well-used silver heart box in need of some loving care. It belonged to a friend of mine who didn’t want to throw it out and so asked me to give it some new life…….

…. and so, it went back home renewed.

One thing I remember when creating the above treasures, is how much I enjoyed working on them.
